Chng Hian Hiong/ Tan Chheng Bi Fund For Visiting Scholars In Memory of Their Parents

 

Purpose:

 

           Chng Hian Hiong/ Tan Chheng Bi Fund for visiting scholars was established at Tainan Theological College and Seminary (TTCS) by Mr. Chng Hian Hiong and elder Tan Chheng Bi, members of the East Gate Presbyterian Church in Tainan, in remembrance of their parents. Elder Tan Chheng Bi served TTCS as a member of its board of Trustees for a number of years. Their love and commitment to theological education and particularly to TTCS has brought this fund to existence.

 

        The purpose of the fund is to invite outstanding scholars from overseas faculties of theology to be a presence and to contribute to the TTCS community. In so doing, TTCS may be enriched by cultural plurality and be able to encounter global Christianity through possible exchanges between faculty members and students.

 

Conditions:

 

1.      This fund shall facilitate interaction between theological thinkers from different parts of the globe with a view to enlarging and broadening the theological outlook of the TTCS community and the Church in Taiwan.

2.      The fund will cover the visiting scholar’s round trip international airfare, lodging in the campus, and an allowance of US$ 800 per month.

3.      Scholars may be invited to stay in the school for a semester (4 months) or an academic year (9 months).  Residence on campus may start from the spring semester (late September) or autumn semester (middle February), to be negotiated individually.

4.      Although, there are no specific obligations on the part of the selected scholars, it is expected that they will contribute to the academic life of the community by offering a course, leading faculty seminars and/or offering public lectures in Taiwan.

 

Application

 

1.      A letter with a current curriculum vita may be sent to the President of TTCS for consideration.  Information regarding research interests and a copy of the recent publication(s) are appreciated. Application for spring semester should reach the office of the President before March 30 in the respective year and for autumn by October 30 of previous year.

2.      Applications should be sent to the President’s office, Tainan Theological College and Seminary, 117, East Gate Road, Sec. 1, Tainan, TAIWAN 701.
